April 27 Events

Some events that have happened over the years on my birthday, which is April 27 are...

April 27, 1989 -- Mandatory seatbelt law goes into effect in Italy. Which mean that everyone in Italy must wear a seatbelt as of April 27, 1989.
April 27, 1994
-- The first democratic general electio n in South Africa, in which black citizens could vote. This actually happened on my exact birthday, it means that the vote can now let black people participate.
April 27, 1941
-- World War II: German troops enter Athens. Pretty simple meaning, the German soldiers came to Athens in World War Two to start fighting.
April 27, 1124
-- David I becomes King of Scotland. David the First, was crowned king of Scotland.
April 27, 1865 -- Steamboat "Sultana" explodes in the Mississippi River, and kills up to 1,547. A pretty tragic event I would say for many people.

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is celebrated on November 11th, (11th month, 11th day and 11th hour) because it marks the end of World War 1. The first Remembrance Day was held in 1919, and was called Armistice Day. In World War One, 600 thousand Canadians fought for their country, and 66 thousand were killed, 172 thousand wounded. The Second World War more than 1 million fought, but 47 thousand didn't come back. We celebrate Remembrance Day because we want to remember all the brave soldiers who went to war, in order to make our country free.

My personal thoughts about Remembrance Day are that it should be a solemn day to remember all the courageous men and women who fought to make our country how it is today. Every week we sing Oh Canada, but never really take time to think about it, Remembrance Day is the day that we should really think about what we are singing and what it means to Canada.

A Canadian and Two Americans Missing in the Amazon

A Canadian and Two Americans Missing in the Amazon

An American pilot, another American and one Canadian are missing in the Amazon, they were in a plane doing geological surveys on the rainforest, when their radio lost contact with the base, in Toronto. A wide-ranging search has been underway ever since the evening that they went missing, involving four aircrafts and two helicopters. No one knows much about it, but how could we know anything more? Except that somewhere out there, there are 3 people… are they dead or alive? "The search is still for a missing plane. All we know is that they lost contact," said Nancy Chan-Palmateer, a spokesperson for U308 Corp.
There is really no opinions on the article but, what I understand from reading and researching it, is that there are three people lost somewhere in the Amazon. That could be a really scary situation to be in; if it were me I probably would have died right away from a panic attack. Hopefully these people are a lot braver than me, and with any luck are still alive.
