Mardi Gras means Fat Tuesday; it was first celebrated by the Catholics. On Mardi Gras people eat as much food as they want, watch parades and have parties. The day after is called Ash Wednesday, which is the beginning of Lent. Lent is when the Catholic people fast on food for forty days. Nowadays, people only give up one thing for 40 days. Mardi Gras can be celebrated anywhere in the world, because there are Catholics all around the world.
My personal thought on Mardi Gras is that it is a sort of weird holiday, but for some cultures it is mandatory, and makes sense. I still don't understand why they would fast for forty days. Going to the parades and eating a lot of food, would be fun, and Easter would also be fun because you can eat again.
